MCP server

Give your AI agent the web. The JsonLink MCP server lets Claude, Cursor, VS Code and any MCP client read pages, get link metadata and take screenshots of any URL.

The server is open source (GitHub) and published on npm asjsonlink-mcp. It uses your API key, credits and rate limits — the same as the REST API.

Tools

ToolWhat it doesCredits
url_to_markdownReads a page and returns its main content as clean Markdown. For articles, docs and blog posts.1
extract_metadataTitle, description, preview images, favicon and site name of a URL.1
screenshotScreenshot of a page — desktop, mobile or full page — returned as an image the model can see.2
extract_linksEvery link on a page with anchor text, follow/nofollow and internal/external. Filter by type.1
extract_imagesEvery image on a page with format, dimensions and file size. Filter out icons by width.1

Failed requests — pages that time out or can't be loaded — cost no credits.

Setup

You need a JsonLink API key: create a free account (100 credits every month) and copy the key from thedashboard. Replace YOUR_API_KEY below with it.

Claude Code

Terminal
claude mcp add jsonlink -e JSONLINK_API_KEY=YOUR_API_KEY -- npx -y jsonlink-mcp

Claude Desktop

Open Settings → Developer → Edit Config and add the server to claude_desktop_config.json, then restart Claude:

claude_desktop_config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "jsonlink": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "jsonlink-mcp"],
      "env": { "JSONLINK_API_KEY": "YOUR_API_KEY" }
    }
  }
}

Cursor

Add it to ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project, or .cursor/mcp.json for one:

mcp.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "jsonlink": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "jsonlink-mcp"],
      "env": { "JSONLINK_API_KEY": "YOUR_API_KEY" }
    }
  }
}

VS Code

Add it to .vscode/mcp.json in your project:

.vscode/mcp.json
{
  "servers": {
    "jsonlink": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "jsonlink-mcp"],
      "env": { "JSONLINK_API_KEY": "YOUR_API_KEY" }
    }
  }
}

Windsurf and other clients

Any stdio MCP client works the same way: command npx, arguments -y jsonlink-mcp and the environment variable JSONLINK_API_KEY.

Example prompts

  • "Read https://example.com/blog/post and summarize it in five bullet points."
  • "Take a mobile screenshot of my landing page and tell me what looks broken."
  • "Get the title and description of these 10 links and put them in a table."
  • "List the external nofollow links on this page."
  • "Find the product images on this page that are at least 600px wide."

Configuration

VariableDescription
JSONLINK_API_KEYYour JsonLink API key. Required.
JSONLINK_API_URLAPI base URL. Defaults to https://jsonlink.io.

Troubleshooting

  • The tools don't show up: restart the client after editing its config and check that Node.js 18+ is installed (node -v).
  • "Invalid API Key": copy the key again from the dashboard; regenerating it invalidates the old one.
  • "Credits quota exceeded": your credits for this period are used up — upgrade or wait for the reset.
  • A page can't be loaded: some sites block automated access or require a login. Those calls are not billed.

FAQ

Which clients are supported?

Any client that runs stdio MCP servers: Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Zed, Cline and more.

Do I need Node.js?

Yes. npx downloads and runs the server, so Node.js 18 or later must be installed.
